RACE DAY PARKING: TBA All course are completely closed to traffic SWIM
The swim will begin with a 50-meter (2 lengths of pool) swim in the indoor facility of MSSU's pool. The race will start with the 5&6-year-old non-swimmers followed by the 5&6-year-old swimmers, then 7&8, 9&10, 11&12, and 13&14-year old racers. Youth with autism and their race buddy’s will start after the bike course has cleared. Participants will only need their swimsuit, swim cap for long hair, and goggles (optional) for this event. NO SWIM FINS, SNORKELS, MASKS, SWIM PADDLES, ETC., WILL BE ALLOWED. Non-swimmers must wear a U.S. Coast Guard Approved Lifejacket to enter the water! Lifejackets will NOT be provided. There will be one-way traffic per lane. Swimmers can stop to rest, but cannot use lane line or pool deck for forward movement.
TRANSITION Presented by Dr Fly's Salon When each swimmer arrives in the bicycle transition area, they need to locate their bicycle. Next to each participant’s bicycle should be their shoes, t-shirt with race number pinned on the front, and bike helmet. It is not necessary for the kids to change out of their swimsuits for this short distance event. Kids that want to change can do so in the pool locker rooms. Each biker will put on their shoes, shirt with race number, and bike helmet. HELMETS MUST BE FASTENED BEFORE LEAVING THE BICYCLE TRANSITION AREA. For safety reasons, bikers must walk their bikes into and out of the bicycle transition area. Failure to walk bicycles into and out of the transition area will result in your child’s elimination from the event.
BIKE COURSE MAP- Presented by Bicycle Specialists:
No scooters or tricycles are allowed. Training wheels are allowed. Only self-propelled bicycles are allowed. Helmets must be fastened and on at all times during the entire bicycle event. All five-, six-, seven- & eight-year-old bikers must complete one loop of the 1 mile course. All nine-, ten-, eleven-, twelve, thirteen and fourteen-year old racers will complete 2 loops for 2 miles total. Youth with autism will turn at an early designated area to complete a ½ mile. For multiple lap competitors, volunteers will mark your shoulder with a Sharpie marker after the completion of each lap to ensure everyone completes the entire course. Failure to complete the required course will result in disqualification from the event. Parent lending assistance may wait near the bicycle course (but not in the bikers’ paths) to assist the child in returning bike to their spot. Please make sure your child understands that they must ride on the right and pass on the left. They also must maint ain at least 2 bike lengths between themselves and the cyclist in front unless they are passing. PARENTS: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION TO YOUR CHILD AND MAKE SURE THEY UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFETY IN THIS EVEN All bike riders must ride safely following all road signs, directions and turns. Do not interfere with any other rider by coming into contact with another rider’s bike at any time. Bikers must stay to the right unless passing on the left. Bikers must stay at least two bike lengths behind another rider unless passing on the left. Any biker making contact with another rider at any time is may face immediate disqualification from the event. The safety of your child and others in this event is paramount! In the event that your child becomes too tired to continue, has an accident or has mechanical problems, there will be bicycle safety staff located around the entire course to assist your child.
RUN COURSE- Presented by The Run Around:
After each biker has completed the bicycle portion of the race, each biker must walk their bicycle into the transition area and return their bicycle to their original location. Bike helmets can be removed and left with the bicycle. Runners will follow a running route on campus There will be a MANDATORY water stop at the beginning of the run course. ALL PARTICIPANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO TAKE A CUP OF WATER! All five-, six-, seven- & eight-year-old runners and youth with autism will turn around at the designated location for each category. All nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen and fourteen year old runners will complete one full loop. One parent may be with their child on the run course to assist with the direction of the course. Participants can walk, run, skip, hop or crawl the run course. They can stop and restart forward movement within a reasonable amount of time. They must complete the run course and cross the finish line to be eligible for an age-division winner award.
RACE FINISH: At the race finish, each child will receive a finisher's award. Food and drinks will be available for competitors to refuel. This is a great time to congratulate your child for their hard work and great efforts! After your child has rested, please feel free to relax and enjoy the park while the race organizers compile race results and prepare for the awards ceremony. PLEASE DO NOT INTERFERE WITH OTHER COMPETITORS STILL ON THE RACE COURSE.
